Dr. Jones is part of the US education and when the No Child Left Behind bill was passed by President George W. Bush, January eighth of 2002 the US education looked to see what our country is lacking in. We are low in Math, Reading, and Science compared to other countries such as China, Japan, and South Korea. There are a total of six states involved in this program though out the United State, Wisconsin, California, Michigan, Rhode Island, North Carolina, and Florida.
Faculty at Sparta High School is being completely cut out and replaced by a totally new group of teachers from the US department of Education and they will be paid by the US government. Teachers will be paid threw there contract date and then will be released and no longer be part of the Sparta School District. This change will go into effect on February the first, 2011. This will be in effect until test scores go up at the High School level, tests including the ACT, SAT, and WKCE. Sparta, right now is below state average, and have been for past three to four years, this is also in effect to attempt to raise the graduation rate at Sparta High and through out this country. Until test scores are increased by at least 25% there will be no extra circular activities, including, athletics and band, there will be no work permits given out and High School students are not aloud jobs because jobs take away from time to be in the classroom or studying material.
The three major courses of study that will be highlighted include, Math, Reading, and Science, many electives could possibly be taken out or the school picks the schedule of the students based on how they are excelling in the three main subjects. The High School year schedule and day schedule will be changed, students will be reporting to class at 7:45 am and will be in school until 5:00pm. With students in school this long they will be taking part in longer class periods, not more classes. With no open campus available, students will be in school this entire time with a snack in the morning, small lunch, and snack in the evening. The school year will begin as usual on September first and go though July first instead of the usual June date. Summer will be determined by the test scores from the three major tests given. If students reach the 25% increase needed they will have July and August off and start again in September. If students do not reach the 25% needed summer will be ten days and resume on July 11th. Until this goal is met students will be at school, needing this increase in both special ed. and regular students. With the school year this long and this much time many students will get sick of coming and just not report, the school district is not going to let this happen by getting five more police officers on campus, taking the total to six cops on campus. If you are ill you must still report and they will attend class in a different wing but still be getting there needed daily education.
