Dr. Jon Jones made an appearance on January 21, at Sparta High School to inform the community of a change in the education.
"This is all about academics," stated  Jones who is a part of  the U.S. department of education, hired by President Obama.  The "no child left behind" movement was elected on January 8, 2002.  Which he believes hasn't been enough.  "We want to increase ACT, WKCE, and grade rates for all students," Jones commented.  All the faculty members and administrative personal at Sparta High will continue their contracts through June 30, at the end of this time period their contracts will be discontinued.

Along with Sparta other schools in different states like California, Michigan, Rhode Island, North Carolina and Florida are adopting the unilateral change.  This is a result of stagnate or below average tests scores.  This will improve them as proved in China, Japan and South Korea.  The programs most focused on will be math, reading, and science. The Department of Education will bring in their own team to supply the students with education and the government will be paying for the costs.

Students will no longer be allowed work permits, no extra cucurricular activities, open campus, and will be at school from 7:45A.M. to 5:00P.M.  In addition there will be five extra police officers to enforce attendance.  "They will be targeting student, teachers and parents who are non compliant to the attendance change," said Jones. Coccurricular activities will be reinstated if proven that test scores have improved. School will end on July 1, if it's shown that scores improved students don't have to come back till September 1, if not they will come back on July 11, and start school over.

"We can't wait any longer, our grades need to improve, after all our students are our future," stressed Jones.
