Many changes will be happening at the Sparta High School on February 1. “Sparta High Schools ACT scores have been going down,” says Doctor Jones of the US education board. All faculty will be replaced with approved teachers.
Teachers will be payed through the end of their contracts. “ They will not be recommended to be rehired at the end of their contracts,” stated Jones. This new idea is taking away our co-curricular activities.
The idea behind this is to improve ACT and WKCE test scores. “The school day will start at 7:45 like we do now but we will end at 5:00 and the school year Will be extended tell July 1,” says Jones. If progress doesn't show between February 1 and July 1 then the students will be given a ten day break and will resume classes on July 11.
There are other states and counties going along with this. California, Michigan, Rhode Island, North Carolina, Florida, and China are all doing the something. “The government will absorb all the costs in an effort to improve the test scores,” according to Jones.
There will be five more school resource officers assigned to the school and they will target truancy, businesses that employ students, and parents that do not comply. “This is all about academics,” according to Jones. the school will be getting rid of the technology.
The whole goal is to improve test scores. “ We need to see drastic improvements in test scores, at least by 25% or better,” stated Jones. If this is met or surpassed then co-curricular activities may be reinstated.
The Classes that need the most work are English, Math, and Science. “There will be an increase in the number of Math, English, and Science classes,” reasoned Jones. The reason behind this increase is because those are the subjects on the ACT and WKCE tests.
This will help this school excel in their future and the future of this country.
