Sparta High School Early Graduates

 By:Angela Leis-Roberts

Ashley King, Haylie Vieth, and Angela Leis-Roberts will be graduating from Sparta High School this year at the end of first semester, January 21st.

There are a few pros and cons to graduating early. Some of the pros to graduating are that it gives you time to prepare yourself for the future. It may help you take care of your family or a family member you have on the way. Sometimes the student may just want to be done with school, to avoid high school drama.

Vieth said, " Graduating early helps me get on the right path to start my career earlier."

Some cons to graduating early are not a lot of colleges accept students who have graduated early, so it may limit the student's choices on colleges. Also, it may affect the student's choice on going on to get a higher degree in the future if the student decides to take a break in between graduating high school and the fall of the next year.

When you graduate early you don't have as much socializing time with friends. King said, " It is sort of stressful to graduate early, you have to have good grades and you have to make sure you are not failing any classes in order to still be able to graduate at semester."

Even with the pros and cons the three students that will be graduating early have their own reasons for graduating early. King said, "I'm graduating early so that I have time to get ready and to take care of my son that is on his way."

Vieth said "I'm graduating early because I want to work to save money before I go on to school. I had thought about taking college classes during high school, but the course i wanted to take was already full."

In order to graduate early there are a few requirements that a student must meet. You need to have 48 credits. You need 8 social studies credits, 4 math credits, 8 English credits, 1 health credit, 1 economics credit, and 3 gym credits. You also have to write a paper on why you want to graduate early and have it approved by the principal.

So if you are thinking about graduating early contact your guidance counselor to see if they will allow you.
